Carnival Cruise Line is set to return to Acapulco, Mexico, in early 2027, marking its first visit to the port in over 15 years. This return is a notable event, offering passengers a chance to explore one of Mexico's most iconic coastal destinations, celebrated for its stunning cliffs, golden beaches, and rich cultural heritage.
The Carnival Firenze will lead the way, docking in Acapulco on January 8, 2027, during a repositioning cruise from Long Beach, California, to San Antonio, Chile. This 14-night journey will also include stops in Manta, Ecuador; Callao, Peru; and other ports in Chile, offering a diverse itinerary through South America. Launched in 2020, the Firenze will be the first Carnival ship to revisit this vibrant Mexican port.
Following this, the Carnival Legend will call at Acapulco on April 13, 2027, as part of a 16-day Carnival Journeys cruise from Tampa, Florida, to Seattle, Washington. This voyage, designed to transition the ship to its summer season in Alaska, includes a stop in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, a full transit of the Panama Canal, and visits to Cartagena de Indias and Santa Marta in Colombia. The Spirit-class Legend provides a unique opportunity for guests to experience Acapulco alongside other remarkable destinations.
Acapulco's return to Carnival's itineraries highlights its appeal as a destination with breathtaking scenery and cultural depth. The port has been absent from Carnival's schedules since 2010, making these visits a significant milestone for the cruise line and its guests. The city's dramatic landscapes and lively atmosphere are expected to draw travelers eager to rediscover its charm.
Beyond Carnival, other cruise lines are also planning to visit Acapulco in the coming years. Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings will send ships like the Norwegian Joy, Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Star, and Norwegian Jade. Additionally, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises have scheduled stops with vessels such as the Oceania Regatta, Oceania Vista, Seven Seas Mariner, Seven Seas Grandeur, and Seven Seas Prestige. Smaller operators, including Phoenix Reisen with the Amera and Amadea, and Azamara with the Quest, will also include Acapulco in their Mexican Riviera itineraries through 2027.
For maritime professionals, this resurgence of cruise activity in Acapulco underscores the importance of understanding port operations, local regulations, and cultural nuances when navigating popular cruise destinations. As cruise lines expand their presence in the Mexican Riviera, seafarers will need to adapt to the operational demands of these ports, ensuring safe and efficient visits while enhancing the passenger experience.
