Big strides for clean energy in Massachusetts! Vineyard Wind 1, a flagship U.S. offshore wind project, is on track to reach full commercial operations by late 2025. 💪 Iberdrola and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners report that 23 of 62 turbines are installed, with 17 already delivering ~241 MW to the grid—30% of the project’s 806 MW capacity. ⚡️
After a setback in 2024 due to blade defects, the project has bounced back. Barges are bustling, with 15+ trips since June to deliver turbine components. 🛳️ New blades from France are replacing those from GE Vernova’s Canada facility, ensuring quality. The project’s base at New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal has extended its lease to June 2026 to support ongoing work. 📅
Vineyard Wind 1 is a trailblazer in U.S. offshore wind, joined by Ørsted’s Revolution Wind (704 MW) in the region, despite challenges from past federal policies. Iberdrola’s next project, New England Wind 1 (791 MW), has federal permits but awaits state agreements. 🌱
