China’s leading plug-in hybrid electric vehicle manufacturer, BYD, has taken delivery of a new 7,000 CEU LNG dual-fuel car carrier, BYD Zhengzhou, built by Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). The 199.9-meter vessel was officially named and delivered on July 16, featuring a dual-fuel propulsion system and a permanent magnet shaft generator. This marks an upgrade to the “Green Low-Carbon Version 2.0” series of car carriers from GSI.
The BYD Zhengzhou joins its sister ship, BYD Hefei, delivered in January 2025. BYD has also chartered two additional LNG-powered 7,000 PCTC vessels, BYD Explorer No. 1 and BYD Changzhou, built by Yantai Raffles Shipyard for Zodiac Maritime. Earlier this year, China Merchants Industry Nanjing Jinling delivered the world’s largest car carrier, the 9,200 CEU BYD Shenzhen, equipped with a dual-fuel system, battery hybrid technology, shaft generator, and high-voltage shore power for zero-emission operations during port activities.
These advancements highlight BYD’s commitment to sustainable shipping solutions in the growing automotive transport sector.
