Stay Afloat, Stay Safe 🌊

Your complete guide to maritime lifesaving appliances. Understanding your gear is the first step to survival at sea.

🤝 Collective Lifesaving Appliances

When abandoning ship, this is your group's safe haven. These are designed for rapid deployment and to protect everyone on board.

  • Lifeboats 🚤 The primary means of escape. Modern lifeboats are often fully enclosed, self-righting, and equipped with engines and essential survival supplies to endure the open water..
  • Inflatable Life Rafts 🟠 Compactly stored and rapidly deployable. These rafts inflate automatically and provide shelter, stability, and visibility with their bright orange canopies and water-activated lights..
  • Rescue Boats ⛑️ Fast and maneuverable, these boats are crucial for retrieving persons from the water and for marshalling life rafts. A key tool in any rescue operation..
  • 👤 Individual Lifesaving Appliances - Your personal line of defense. This equipment is designed to keep you afloat, visible, and protected from the elements..
  • Life Jackets 🦺 Essential for survival. Designed to keep your head above water even if unconscious. Equipped with a whistle, retroreflective tape, and a light for detection..
  • Lifebuoys ⭕ For "man overboard" emergencies. These buoyant rings are thrown to a person in the water and are often equipped with self-igniting lights and smoke signals for day and night visibility..
  • Immersion Suits 🧤 Your protection against hypothermia. These waterproof suits cover the entire body, providing insulation in cold water and increasing survival time significantly.

Be Prepared, Not Scared 👨‍🏫

Knowing your alarms, muster stations, and how to use the equipment is not just a rule—it's your lifeline. Regular drills and proper training ensure you can act decisively when it matters most.

Good course with useful videos, especially on rescue boat operations. I liked the section on individual lifesaving appliances, such as lifebuoys. However, I would have liked more interactive simulations for deploying life rafts.

There's a lot of material, sometimes even too much. The videos themselves are to the point, especially on rescue boat operations. The main thing is that it is all to the point.
